(Though I have to admit the hardest part of this record may have been trying to find the actual newspaper). The previous record was 1 minute 21 seconds. On our 7th attempt we got 1 minute 17 seconds. It has now been submitted to Guinness for official approval.
The Power of Teamwork:
Success requires a cohesive team that shares a vision and embraces collaboration. In breaking the record, my team of eight individuals exemplified true teamwork.
- Leveraging Individual Strengths:
- Optimize performance by recognizing and harnessing individual skills (one person in our group literally had a sewing needle embedded in her knee and had limited mobility. We gave her the portion that did not require kneeling). Later that night the X-ray confirmed why her knee was in pain.
- Effective Communication:
- Clear communication ensures everyone is on the same page and fosters innovation. We had to change who was doing what several times to ensure we went as fast as possible.
- Trust and Support:
- Building trust creates an environment of support and empowerment. On one attempt we thought we’d broken the record but after time was called Vince smoothed out some newspaper to make it look better. Since he touched the newspaper after time, the attempt was invalidated. Fortunately for him, there was a small gap in the newspaper revealing clothing so the attempt would be invalidated anyway.
