You’ve seen throwing stars, throwing knives, but how about throwing chopsticks?
I first broke this record in 2020 by making 19 target hits in one minute, besting the previous mark of 14.
But I lost the record to 21 hits, so I had to get more chopsticks and try again. I had 70 metal chopsticks and threw into cardboard tens of thousands of times to prepare. One of the biggest challenges was getting into the center of the two circles on the target because you’re over 4 meters away, and most of the target area doesn’t count.
But my arm got sore, so I had to rest and let my kids take a few throws. My family all loves throwing the chopsticks and cheering me on. I threw and threw and threw. I counted the hits and practiced some more.
It was time to make the attempt. I set up the 80 cm archery target 4 meters away, and after a 3, 2, 1, go, I started throwing. To count, you actually have to hit the two inner colors, so the target area is just a fraction of the full target. Fortunately, my first throw was dead center. I grabbed another chopstick and threw. I threw and threw and threw, and chopsticks stuck, some clattered, some fell out, but at the end of the minute we counted it up, and there were 28 hits, making the record mine.
I’m David Rush, and I hold the most world records.
