f someone had told me a year ago that I would be setting a Guinness World Record for folding and throwing a paper airplane, I would have said, perhaps, but it’s not my speciality. Yet, here I am, the proud record holder of the fastest time in the Guinness World Record Challenge 2023 for precisely that! And it’s been viewed over 40 millinon times on Guinness Channels. Here’s the behind the scenes.
The previous record was just over seven seconds. After a Challenge fro Guinness I decided to break this record: Fastest time to fold and launch a paper airplane. Sounds simple, right? Well, not exactly. The best viewed records are often those that everyone feels like they can beat because they know the skill… like folding a paper airplane.
I spent two days folding paper airplanes after some practice early on. My wife, a mechanical engineer at HP making printers, was my ally providing me with an endless supply of paper, and also doing the timing.
After a full morning of folding and throwing, I uploaded my video to social media – a requirement for the Guinness World Record challenge.
That evening, I discovered that Andre Ortolf submitted a video beating my time. I dove back into the challenge .
The evening session was a blur of paper and kids running around. After many attempts, I managed to fold and throw a paper airplane in 6.15 seconds! Elated, I sent off the evidence to Guinness.
The response from Guinness World Records : I had won the challenge!
So after all that, do you think you could have won? Do you think you could beat me? Check out the video end for the surpising reveal.
