Some say that different M&M colors taste different, and if you’re picky about which colors you munch on, you might want to meet the Guinness World Record holder for the “Fastest Time to Sort 500g of Peanut M&Ms” (me).

As part of Guinness World Records Day, the challenge was set: sort 500 grams of Peanut M&Ms in the shortest time possible. Let’s dive into the colorful journey of how I managed to claim this tasty title.

The Sweet Beginnings: First things first, I needed 500 grams of Peanut M&Ms. After raiding my kids’ Halloween leftovers, I still needed to buy another 2 big bags! With the candy collected, it was time to practice.

The Sorting Strategy: After some thought, I decided to tackle one color at a time, quickly picking up as many as I could hold in one hand before depositing them into the correct bowl.

The first attempts at breaking the record were not as sweet as I hoped. Sorting and re-sorting, I couldn’t beat the standing record of 1 minute and 19 seconds.

Undeterred, I decided to save the color that appeared most frequently for last. This allowed me to scoop up 10 candies at a time, significantly speeding up the sorting process for one color.

With each attempt, I improved. Weighing, pouring, and timing the sorting process meticulously, I went through 15 rounds, each improving. Finally, on my 16th try, I sorted 500g of Peanut M&Ms in 1 minute and 14 seconds, clinching the Guinness World Record title!

I got the email the next morning informing my time was the winning. And as a bonus, the reward was not just the title but a stash of M&Ms to savor, since Guinness doesn’t allow food to go to waste!
