Guinness World Record Attempt: Farthest Ice Cream Throw and Catch (Team of Two)
On my way from appearing on Live! With Kelly and Mark in New York City to Disneyland in Los Angeles, I met up with YouTube star Josh Horton and his team to try several Guinness World Records. One of them was the Farthest Ice Cream Throw and Catch (Team of Two).
Josh VanBattenburg on Josh Horton’s team was the thrower, and I was the catcher holding the cone. The goal was simple: scoop, throw, catch, and make sure the ice cream stays in the cone. The distance to beat was 10 meters.
We used Great Value Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, Great Value Ice Cream Cones, and a commercially available, unmodified scoop. The thrower stood on a fixed line where cement met asphalt, scooped, and immediately threw. The catch was measured from the front of Josh’s front foot to the front of mine when the ice cream landed in the cone and stayed there.
After several tricky attempts, we finally nailed it. The official result was 16.88 meters (55 feet 5 inches), well beyond the distance required for the record.
Once the measurement was taken, Josh and I ate the record cone, and my kids and others enjoyed more cones afterward.
This was one of multiple team records we attempted that day, and definitely the sweetest.
