Most Wet Sponge Hits to the Face in One Minute
Jonathan “Hollywood” Hannon and I previously set the Guinness World Records title for Most Wet Sponge Hits to the Face in One Minute with 92 hits, smashing the old mark of 76. For a while, it looked strong until someone smashed past us with 93.
That didn’t sit right. We knew we had to take it back.
So we trained. We practiced. We made attempt after attempt, refining every detail until finally—on our 47th world record together—we hit 96 wet sponge smacks in just one minute!
The Method Behind the Madness
Here’s how we pulled it off:
-
Jonathan’s Secret Weapon: Hollywood is ambidextrous, which means he can fire sponges both hands, rapid-fire: right–left, right–left. It’s a blur of motion, and without his insane speed, there’s no way we could push the numbers this high.
-
My Tricky Role Yet: My job is to take the hits but I can’t just stand still. I have to slightly adjust my head each time so the sponge lands squarely on my face. The real challenge? I need my eyes open to track the sponge and make that micro-adjustment, but shut a split second before the scratchy side smacks me in the eyeball. Then, as soon as the water washes off, I’ve got to open them immediately to locate the next sponge. It’s a nonstop cycle of precision timing.
-
Why It’s So Hard: The margin for error is razor-thin. Miss one adjustment, lose one sponge, or blink too long, and the run falls apart. But after a ton of practice and timing drills, we finally nailed it.
96 Hits. One Minute. One More Record.
It wasn’t easy, but that’s what makes it worth it. This record is a perfect mix of ridiculous fun and ridiculous difficulty—the kind of thing that keeps us hungry to push further.
Jonathan and I now share 47 Guinness World Records titles together, but we’re not stopping (despite living in different states).
Check out the video and watch as we take back the record with 96 wet sponge smacks to the face in a single minute.
Enjoy the chaos—and stay tuned, because number 48 is coming.
